Personalized Assessment
When you're looking to understand your child's needs and how best to support them, assessments are a powerful tool. They offer a clear picture of both your child’s strengths and areas for growth, helping us build a personalized plan to guide their development.
At Brighter Futures, the assessments are covered by insurance every six months, making them an affordable and effective way to track progress and ensure we're always working with the most up-to-date information about your child
A qualified staff member will meet with you and your child to assess their current skills and deficits. More than just identifying challenges, assessments help us identify strengths we can build on, ensuring your child gets the personalized support they need to thrive.
What to Expect:
With Brighter Futures therapy Services, Initial Assessments take place in the child’s home, daycare or school. Information provided in the intake paperwork help the BCBA select the best assessment to gage the client’s strengths and areas for growth. Assessment generally take 1.5 hours to complete and is broken into 2 parts.
Part 1: Parent Interview
The BCBA will go over all answers provided in families initial intake paperwork as well as go over important patient information. Background information such as medical, educational, and ABA history will be asked. Parents are encouraged to ask any questions they might have about ABA and the process during this portion. The BCBA will also briefly discuss possible goals.
Part 2: Patient Observation
The BCBA will be assessing the child utilizing the best assessment tool available based on different factors such as: Age, Communication skills and challenging behaviors. This portion will look like play! The BCBA will be getting down to the child’s level and utilizing multiple different toys to try an catch the child’s attention. Child not interested or is engaging in high rates of challenging behaviors? It’s ok, we’ve seen it all, information collected in the parent interview will be utilized to complete the assessment and create future goals.
Assessment reports will be emailed to the parent within 2 weeks from their assessment date. This email will be through DocuSign. Once the parent has had the opportunity to review and sign, the report will be sent to the Child’s insurance provider for review.
Once approved by the Child’s insurance, someone from our Admin department will be calling you about scheduling your child’s first day!
Why Continuous Assessments Matter
Adapting to Growth
As your child grows, their needs and abilities change, sometimes faster than we expect. Continuous assessments ensure that their plan evolves with them, so they always have the right support at every stage of their development.
Catching Challenges Early
Kids don’t always show their struggles right away. With ongoing assessments, we can catch small issues before they turn into bigger challenges, helping prevent frustration and setbacks down the road.
Building on What Works
Beyond addressing challenges, ongoing assessments help us spot your child’s strengths and use them to fuel further growth. Every win, big or small, becomes a building block for their future success.
Consistency and Clarity
A one-time assessment can tell us a lot, but your child’s journey doesn’t stop there. Continuous assessments keep us on track, providing a clear, up-to-date picture of their progress and ensuring we’re always moving in the right direction.
Long-Term Success
Like parenting, therapy is a marathon, not a sprint. With ongoing assessments, we’re not just reacting to behaviors as they arise, we’re being proactive, creating a long-term plan that adapts to your child’s changing needs and sets them up for lasting success.
